Chip Kidd, John Gall, Definitions.

Chip Kidd is a well known graphic designer, author, and editor. He is best known for his innovative book covers. He challenges the viewer, for example: The book is about a big horse, but on the cover of the books he only shows part of the mane. He keeps the viewer wanting more, and wondering what the book is about. 

John Gall is a well known artist who designs book covers. He is known as someone who pushed himself throughout his life to get where he is now. He started off painting signs for a grocery store and now he is a famous designer. He has a very unique out of the ordinary type of style that grabs the viewers attention. 

SeriesA succession of usually continuously numbered issues or volumes of a publication, published with related authors or subjects and similar formats.

Sequence: A related or continuous series. A following of one thing after another; succession.

Sign: An act or gesture used to convey an idea, a desire, information, or a command. Stop, Stop Sign.

Index: Something that serves to guide, point out, or otherwise facilitate reference. Guide, Map.

Symbol: Something that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention, especially a material object used to represent something invisible. Mac, Apple.
